Prayer and Action for Ukraine

#standwithukraine

Sending thoughts and prayers is a cheap way to evade taking responsible steps in a crisis. In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, sports authorities take spirited steps:

In preparation for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the United Nations joined the Olympic Movement in calling for a hallowed Olympic truce. Now, the IOC is forced to condemn Russia’s breach of the sacred peace:

Spirited action also comes from the soccer world: Poland, Sweden and the Czech Republic are asking for their WCQ playoff matches to not be held in Russia:

Last, but not least, Boxing Champion Wladimir Klitschko lays out steps for the fight for freedom and democracy:

You can do something by mobilizing and organizing huge demonstrations. Make your voice heard. Make the voice of democracy heard. Say it loud and clear that international law and democracy are under attack, that war is the greatest evil and that life is sacred.

Hit the Gym, says Pope

In a recent tweet, Pope Francis, advises people should hit the gym hard: “Fraternal love is a gymnasium of the spirit.” Compassion takes training. How are you working on that today?

Rock Ice Church

Who doesn’t appreciate a quick round of Rock, Paper, Scissors? Something similar happened on Twitter today:

Matt Hamilton pushed a little curling rock on the Olympic ice in Beijing. NBC tagged Dwayne ‘ The Rock’ Johnson and shared his likeness on the thing being pushed on the ice. Both derive their name from St. Peter whose name is Latin for – you guessed it – The Rock:

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.

Matthew 16:18

PFL Champion aligns with homophobic church

Two times PFL champion Kayla Harrison went to a church Valentines Party. She attends Park Ridge Church in Coralsprings, Florida. The church aggressively claims, “Christians should oppose […] homosexuality.” Kayla is posing happily for a photo at church knowing full well that the place is very exclusive in which kinds of love are celebrated and demonized. “Happy Valentines to me but not to you,” is a strange message to teach your children.

Kosher at the Beijing Olympics

Beijing Rabbi Shimon Freundlich inspects 1,500 meals prepared for visiting athletes, coaches and journalists. He makes sure they are kosher, meaning they follow Jewish ritual standards.

“While the Olympians take care of their physical fitness, we’ll make sure their spiritual fitness is kept in shape.”

Freundlich tells Chabad.org

Pope blesses Beijing Games

The Roman Catholic Church is a global institution just like the International Olympic Committee. Both are organized in national bodies under a global roof. It only makes sense that Francis joins with a message of global peace.

An Olympic Curler’s Prayer

John Shuster was just named the male American flag bearer for the Beijing winter Olympics. In a recent Peacock documentary, skip confessed:

I’ve never prayed before a curling game in my entire career. And I found myself praying, “give myself and my teammates strength to come out there and be the team that we worked so hard to be.”
